Fratricide in Milwaukee Music

I can't image what Milwaukee's Brian Hoffer hopes to accomplish with this Facebook ad:
Really? You just recorded your debut album, and now you're insulting the one venue that might actually give your drowsy pop some airtime? Doesn't seem like a wise marketing strategy, especially from someone whose main gig is, in fact, marketing (for Milwaukee Recreation, if I'm not mistaken).

Maybe there's some bad blood between Hoffer and 88Nine. Maybe Hoffer isn't very serious about his music. Or maybe he simply doesn't care whether Into the Boulevard reaches a wider audience.

If that's the case, don't expect anyone else to care, either.

  1. Hi Mike,

Thanks for helping me get the word out about my album. ;) However, I don't have any problem with Radio Milwaukee. I was simply sharing my opinion in a way that caught your attention, as all good advertising should. You weren't the only one to take notice; I've gained many new fans from that ad because it resonates with people's feelings about 88Nine.

For your information, I've donated hundreds of dollars to 88Nine over the years, and I value the service they provide. However, I sometimes think they fall into the trap of being "too hip" by playing the most obscure tracks they can find. In other words, I think they should be playing more power pop like "Psychoanalysis" -- especially when it's being created right here in Milwaukee.

Most of your post is pure conjecture and guesswork. You should have contacted me before posting to confirm, at the very least, that I created the ad. You should have asked for my comments regarding your uninformed opinions about who I am and what I stand for. Here's my own guess: you seem depressed. Buy my album. It will cheer you up.

    All the best,
    Brian Hoffer
